Do You Really Understand Coffee?

5 Coffee Myths Every Coffee Lover Should Know

At THRE3 CO. Café, we believe coffee is more than just a daily drink.

Behind every cup is a journey: from the farm, to the roast, to the brewer, and finally into your hands. Understanding a few coffee fundamentals can completely change the way you enjoy your coffee.

Let’s clear up five of the biggest coffee myths.

Myth 1

Dark Roast Has More Caffeine

Many people believe:  Dark roasted coffee tastes stronger, so it must contain more caffeine.

The Truth

Not necessarily.

Caffeine is actually very stable during roasting. While dark roasts lose a little caffeine during the roasting process, the difference is very small.

When coffee is measured by weight, light roast often contains slightly more caffeine because the beans are denser.

At THRE3 CO. We choose beans based on flavour, not caffeine.

Whether it’s a bright Ethiopian or a rich espresso blend, every roast has its own personality.

Myth 2

Brewing Coffee with Boiling Water Makes Better Coffee

Many people simply pour 100°C boiling water over coffee.

The Truth

Different coffees require different temperatures.

Light Roast

90–93°C

Perfect for highlighting floral, citrus and fruity notes.

Medium Roast

88–91°C

Balanced sweetness and body.

Dark Roast

83–88°C

Lower temperatures reduce bitterness and burnt flavours.

At THRE3 CO., every pour-over recipe is adjusted to suit the coffee.

Myth 3

Coffee Beans Stay Fresher in the Refrigerator

The Truth

Actually, the refrigerator is one of the worst places to store coffee.

Coffee beans easily absorb:

 Moisture, Food odours, Temperature changes

> All of these reduce freshness and flavour.

Best Storage:

Airtight container, Cool, dry place, Away from sunlight

Good coffee deserves proper storage.

Myth 4

Finer Grind = Better Coffee

Many people think grinding finer always creates stronger coffee.

The Truth

Grinding too fine can actually cause:

Over-extraction, Excess bitterness, Dry, unpleasant finish

Every brewing method requires a different grind size.

Espresso, pour-over, French press and cold brew all use different grind settings.

At THRE3 CO., our grinders are calibrated daily to ensure every cup is brewed correctly.

Myth 5

Espresso Is a Type of Coffee Bean

The Truth

Espresso is not a bean.

It is a brewing method that uses high pressure to extract coffee.

Almost any coffee bean can be brewed as:

Espresso, Pour Over, Filter Coffee, French Press

“Espresso Roast” simply means the beans were roasted with espresso brewing in mind—it doesn’t mean they can only be used for espresso.

Coffee Is More Than Just Coffee

Every decision changes the flavour:

Origin, Variety, Roast Level, Water Temperature, Grind Size, Brewing Method

Small changes create completely different tasting experiences. That’s why two cups of coffee can taste nothing alike, even when they’re made from the same beans.
